Shuttle

Ship Size Classification

Shuttle craft are small transports with short range, rarely capable of traveling farther than a single destination in the same system. Their size ranges from 20 to 40 meters. Shuttles are usually crewed by one or two people, however larger shuttles have capacity for up to 20 passengers. They are designed to ferry passengers or cargo, and most craft classified as frigate or larger have a dedicated shuttle to allow crew to travel to a planet surface or another spacecraft. Shuttle craft also contain a standard docking ring. The have life support and normally refreshment services. No registered shuttle may install a Zipp Drive.

Dropship variants are heavily-armed shuttles with passenger bays converted to contain up to 20 armed personnel. They also have ventral hardpoints rigged to transport surface vehicles and equipment. Multiple dropships may be employed to deliver or retrieve larger objects such as crashed spacecraft or prefabricated buildings. Since dropships are generally designed for vertical takeoff and landing, their primary use is for planetside deployment.
