Union of Private Space

As a result of their reluctance to leave Blimnor, when Dwarves finally took to the stars, they found much of the habitable worlds taken, and resources claimed. This forced them to accept jobs as hard labor for governments and small corporations often with little or no pay. And to make matters worse, the stringent regulations set by the Schematic for Cosmic Order made it difficult for Dwarves to negotiate for better treatment, establish different laws, or even start corporations of their own.

To combat this, dwarves formed the Union of Private Space. They also found an unlikely ally from halfling outlaws, who chafed under tariffs and contraband laws. With a newfound unity, the UPS found ways to destabilize Schema influence in fringe systems until they could establish corporate territories of their own. Now they are renowned for their rapidly growing industries that appeal to small and large business alike.

Core Values

Freedom

It is our right to live our lives according to our own ideals, but we should never impinge upon that right for others.

Privacy

Space is vast, we should be able to carry out our actions away from the prying, judgmental, and jealous eyes of others.

Industry

The universe is plentiful in its resources, it would be the ultimate disrespect not to exploit every last gram.

Political Structure

The Union of Private Space claims that it has no political structure.

The structure of the Union of Private space is simple and easy to explain. Each of the 16 like-minded corporations has exclusive rights to the resources and space within the systems they own.

There is no governing body, and each corporation is beholden only to themselves and all disputes are settled either through armed conflict, or financial settlement.

There is no regulation of the rights and opportunities available to a corporation, however the Foreman of each corporation may decide on the rights and opportunities of his employers.

No ship is subject to identification, search or seizure unless it encroaches on private space belonging to one of the corporations.

Of the 16 like-minded corporations, one person is accepted as the Speaker for the Foremen. Their responsibility is to communicate and negotiate with other organizations on behalf of all 16 corporations.

The Like-Minded Corporations are:

    • Golbersson Starforge

    • Torkanon

    • Bakketekno

    • Zestedrivstoff

    • Rustyrocket

    • Idleshire Studios

    • Poptrick

    • Bitnovel

    • Gollfdive

    • Goldvalley Industries

    • Undermenk

    • Deepgreed Extractions

    • Ibanmarrow Associates

    • Dimglow Incorporated

    • Marbletooth Treatments

    • Copperbone Technologies

The Union for Private Space holds on ongoing contract with each corporation entitling them a percentage of their warships and crew to a combined navy. This is called the United Private Militia Fleet and their ships carry the designation UPMF. While it is small and poorly organized, corporate-owned systems are usually far more reliant on corporate fleets.

United Private Militia

The United Private Militia is a federation of allied corporate security groups.

United Private Militia Infantry

The United Private Militia Infantry, as with their parent organization, is a collection of mercenary employees of UPS corporations. While the Infantry are well-payed and well-armed, they frequently lack the training or experience of other standing military. And because they are a contractual loan from a corporation, they are rarely even the best a corporation has to offer. Furthermore, since most conflicts are settled by corporate private security, the conflicts the Infantry are deployed to are infrequent, and almost always domestic. One perk of serving in the UPM Infantry, however, is that upon completing the contract, their corporation is obliged to offer significant promotion, meaning that many Infantry are on a fast track to retirement.

Specializations

Standard Infantry are normally self-trained mercenaries or surplus corporate security. They wear the Advanced Ironskull helmet, medium armor, and and carry a combination of plasma rifle, beam rifle, and an assortment of sidearms and grenades.

Stone Corps Infantry are often seasoned combat miners who wear the Advanced Ironskull helmet, and medium armor, however they are equipped with riveters, drills, powerhammers, explosives, and other tools for fighting in caves and creating new ones.

Combat Engineer deployed for a variety of construction projects, they wear light armor and an Advanced Ironskull helmet. They may be equipped with beam rifles or riveters, as well as a sidearm, however they mainly rely on constructing an advantageous environment to fight in. They bring tools, raw materials, military-grade OPIS, plasma torches, PXE drones, automated turrets, sensors, explosives, and various other equipment.

Heavy Infantry are licensed to use powered heavy armor, and are capable of fighting in strange and hazardous environments such as molten rock, ocean floor, or caustic atmosphere. Their weaponry and equipment is normally stored in special containers during transport through extreme biomes, however many heavy infantry rely on the devastating unarmed blows that can be delivered by powered armor itself.

Demographics

The Union of Private Space was originally racially homogeneous, consisting entirely of disgruntled dwarf laborers dissatisfied with the bureaucratic and intrusive methods of the Schematic for Global Order. However, once their movement gained momentum, they were joined by large communities of both halflings and orcs.
