Fighter

Ship Size Classification

Fighter craft are small, maneuverable, and heavily armed attack craft that range from 15-20 meters in length. They have between one to three crew-members. Most fighters do not contain life-support except to sustain the life support on the crew’s suits. A registered fighter cannot be installed with a Zipp Drive. Fighters are sometimes designed with some aerodynamic features in the event they must operate in at atmosphere.

Bomber variants are less common now that guidance systems have made torpedos more reliable. However, there are still situations where torpedos must be launched within atmospheric conditions, or at closer ranges to allow minimal opportunity for point-defense systems to shoot them down. Dedicated bombers tend to have slower acceleration and maneuverability due to the mass of their payload.

Interceptor variants are designed to accelerate faster than most other craft, and are very maneuverable. They are usually equipped with close-range and point-defense weapons that help them pursue and disable torpedoes or other spacecraft.

Gunship variants are larger and more heavily armored fighters with a greater weapons compliment and a dedicated gunner. Their purpose is to attack stationary or less-maneuverable targets using sustained fire.

Fighters are deployed in squadrons. Squadrons consist of up to twelve fighters, and wings of up to three squadrons.
