Frigate

Ship Size Classification

Frigates are the most common military and support spacecraft, making up the majority of a given fleet. Not being designed for atmospheric landing, frigates can be constructed as large as 300 meters in length and can be fitted with larger weapons, engines, interior capacity, and can carry a compliment of shuttles. Most frigates are crewed by up 100 people, however the more specialized variants usually have smaller crews of around 20.

Bulk freighter variants hollow out the majority of a frigate’s hull to allow for greater cargo capacity. While this is often to allow one frigate to deliver a volume of cargo equivalent to dozens of freighters, the extensive cargo space is often used to transport surface structures, salvaged ships, asteroids, or even entire new colonies.

Tanker variants convert the majority of the frigate’s hull to house Zipp Drive crystals and fuel tanks, as well as utility pods to assist with repair, refitting, and restoration. Tankers are slow both because of the mass of their cargo and the hull-plating necessary to ensure that fuel does not ignite.

Zipper variants are loosely classified as frigates, however the majority of their hull space is converted to a massive Zipp Line Consolidator ring. These ships spend most of their time in Zipp Space, reducing Zipp Line congestion.
