Spyd-class Corvette

The Spyd-class corvette is a holdover from the war for independence of the Union of Private Space.

Initially it was noted for its practical and durable frame. However, it soon became notorious for something else entirely. A dwarf engineer named Yurgen Gravelmane discovered a method of temporarily increasing the impulse of the Spyd's engines at the cost of fuel and safety. This came to be known as "stoking" engines and became widely used as a means of escape or pursuit. During the Battle of Rosh, it was used to ram the corvettes into SCO warships, causing damage, disorientation, and weapons malfunction.

Spyds have since been retrofitted with cooling spikes that allow for sustained stoking maneuvers and unparalleled heat management. The drawback of which, is the corvette's overwhelming and unmistakable thermal signature, leading to the phrase "Spyding my sensors".

The Spyd's interior was designed almost entirely to be an effective warship with four decks at the bow comprised of bridge and operations as well as crew accommodations. Midship runs a narrow set of corridors as well as a lateral hangar that can fit a fighter or other vehicle. The aft section manages to stack six decks that house engineering sections and additional cargo holds. While this corvette may have a greater number of decks than the average craft in their size rating, those serving on the craft have commented on its oppressively cramped and hot interior. The density of the interior allows for more of the ship's frame to used for armor and stability.

The Spyd's chassis is one of the strongest of any warcraft even close to its size rating, being capable both of distributing kinetic load of collisions and of distributing thermal energy, allowing sustained use of the engines while maintaining cabin temperature.
