Aluurch-class Bomber

With the range and guidance technology of torpedoes becoming more advanced, the use of bomber craft has largely declined. This coupled with their slow acceleration, poor maneuverability, and reliance on escort fighters, makes them rarely worth launching.

However, among the fleets that still carry bombers for special circumstances, those craft tend to be the Groush & Balg Tribals Aluurch-class bomber.

The Aluurch sports an under-slung swiveling plasma cannon turret, allowing it to return fire on interceptor craft. Instead of carrying medium missiles standard for most bombers, the Aluurch can carry six large Yurek-class torpedoes, giving capital ships a taste of their own medicine.

The central launch system and the exhaust tunnel allow the torpedoes to activate their engines immediately upon release without fear of the drive plume damaging the Aluurch. This makes it much harder for targets to intercept the torpedo, and it also makes it easier to set up unguided bombing runs.
